Poggiopiano - winery in San Casciano

The Fattoria Poggiopiano lies at the very beginning of the Chianti Classico zone just South of Florence. It's a beautiful position overlooking the hills and the Apennine Mountains is even more enhanced by the old farmhouse and the surrounding vineyards. The farm is family owned and run first hand by the Bartoli's. The choice here has been to ignore the fashion of planting international varietals and to concentrate on native grapes (before this became fashionable), and whilst other wineries were making Super Tuscans from Merlot & Cab, Poggiopiano became famous for their Rosso di Sera made entirely on indigenous grapes.
