Montecalvi - winery in Greve in Chianti
CHIANTI CLASSICO
Montecalvi is a small, organic wine estate in the heart of Chianti, in the hilly area of Greve in Chianti, 20 km south of Florence. The south-westerly facing estate covers 10 hectares of which four hectares are vineyards and olive trees. There are four small vineyards (one of which has been planted in 1932 on dry stonewall terraces) at an altitude of around 300m above sea level, on land derived mostly from sandstone. Montecalvi produces three red wines – Chianti Classico, San Piero, Vigna Vecchia (or ‘VV’). Keep an eye out as well for the new white wine – Vermentino (or ‘V’) is also being made. The estate was owned by the Bolli family for two generations. The Drake family acquired Montecalvi in 2017, and they are intent on building upon the farming practices and traditional ways of the Bollis.
