Grattamacco - winery in Bolgheri

The winery was one of the first of the renowned Bolgheri region making a name for itself. Situated on a hill in front of the sea at an altitude of 100 meters, between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, it has changed hands since the humble beginnings and is now owned by brother & sister Tipa who started out with the Collemassari winery in Montecucco. Their latest acquisition is the prestigious Poggio di Sotto winery in Montalcino. Grattamacco is composed of 25 hectares, which are cultivated with white Vermentino, and then the reds Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Compared to most other wineries in Bolgheri, the vineyards of Grattamacco are elevated in position and hence the Sangiovese is to be found practically only here. This winery has always been ahead in Bolgheri, not just for making wines that compete with the best of the few famous ones, but also because of the effort of going green & organic.
